SHOW NOTES

When things no longer work the way they have been designed, we try to fix them.

We hope this holds true for our relationships with family, partners, money, careers, and even the world around us.

But the way it worked with our guest, Adela Raffa was different. She thought that fixing people outside of herself would make her feel better. But going through a self-awareness process proved this wrong. Finding her inner landscape allowed her to embody the change that she wanted to see, find alignment and become more connected with the present.

Three Tips to Effectively Handle Difficult Conversations

1. Tonality is important. The meaning of your communication is the response you get. If you don't like the response you are getting, change the way you communicate.

2. Ask better questions. Ask how, what, where, or when and avoid the why. When asked "why?" it raises our suspicions, we feel judged, and our defenses go up.

3. Communication doesn’t always have to be words. If it’s difficult to say in words, use actions to show what you mean. Sometimes effectively communicating something is being silent and not saying anything at all.

Episode Challenge (54:54)

Think of a moment with someone where it was difficult to start a conversation.

  1. Open the conversation by stating the obvious about yourself. For example, say how you are feeling at the moment like – “I'm really nervous. My palms are sweaty. You know, I don't know how to start.”

  2. Next, state what you are noticing with the other person. For example, say “You're looking at me, and I'm feeling very vulnerable. I'm feeling uncomfortable.” Or say, “ You're looking at me, say something.”

Who did you choose? What was your experience? What was your state-the-obvious?”

Adela’s Bio:

Adela Raffa is an international coach, teacher, trainer, speaker, workshop facilitator, and healer. She is a Certified Gestalt Therapy Practitioner, Certified Master NLP Practitioner, Registered Business Coach, Sacred Healing Minister, Usui Reiki Master, and holds a degree in Human Services & Social Work.

Before her breakthrough, Adela was a divorced single parent with unfinished emotional baggage, overwhelmed, felt stuck and stagnant despite her 20-year stint in Corporate America.

This life-long learner knew that there was more to life and embarked on a personal development quest. She tried everything from Cognitive and Jungian therapy to experimental counseling. She studied various spiritual beliefs and processed inner child work. What she thought of was a rabbit hole that she had fallen into had emerged into a whole new world that revealed an inner landscape where she found the missing piece of the puzzle that was her "self." This pursuit completely changed her life.

Now, Adela is on a mission to bring people into the same transformational journey. Using simple tools and techniques that worked for her, Adela combines the different practices and modalities with a dash of mindfulness, a pinch of spirituality, and a healthy dose of intuition to help people create a powerful, positive change in their lives.
